6th class go to the Science Blast!
Sixth class students recently enjoyed an exciting and inspiring trip to the ESB Science Blast in the RDS. The event brought together schools from across the country to showcase their scientific investigations and celebrate curiosity, creativity, and discovery. Our students represented the school brilliantly, confidently presenting their projects and engaging with visitors throughout the day.
Ms Myerscough’s class explored the fascinating question, “What makes a piece of artwork stand out?” They investigated elements such as colour, size, detail, and placement to see which features most captured people’s attention. Through surveys and carefully designed experiments, they gathered data and analysed patterns in people’s responses. Their display was vibrant and eye-catching, perfectly reflecting their research topic.
Meanwhile, Ms McGuinness’ class examined whether the volume of sound affects how quickly people react. Using controlled sound levels and timed response activities, they tested participants to measure reaction speeds. Their results sparked plenty of discussion among visitors, and the students confidently explained how they ensured their experiment was fair and reliable.
In addition to presenting their projects, students attended an engaging science talk that further sparked their interest in the world of STEM. Adding to the excitement of the day, Mark Ward TD also stopped by our stand to chat with the students and hear about their research. It was a memorable and inspiring experience for everyone involved.
