6th Class Term 2
This term, 6th class has been very busy and learning lots of interesting things!
In history, we have been studying the 1916 Rising and the foundation of the state. Ms. McGuinness's class did a creative project where they recreated buildings on Sackville Street during the Rising, including the GPO, using cardboard.
In geography, we have been learning about rivers. We did projects on the Nile, Yangtze, Amazon, and Congo rivers. The children were very interested and learned a lot of new terminology related to rivers.
In maths, we have been exploring all things shape. Students created 3D shapes using straws and pipe cleaners and constructed the shapes from the net of the shape. We looked at symmetry, studied the circle, and learned how to measure circumference. We also looked at spatial awareness and co-ordinate planes. Ms. Myerscough’s class created Valentine tessellations and plotted co-ordinates too.
In Gaeilge, we have been learning about Sa Bhaile, An Teilifís and An Aimsir. Students created their own towns and wrote about them using prepositions.
In art, we have been learning under the construction strand and looked at paper folding techniques.
In science, we have been learning about heat. We conducted experiments to see which materials keep hot chocolate warm the longest, and we have also been busy preparing for the Science Blast, carrying out investigations and collecting data for our projects.
In PE, we have been swimming and played badminton.
We have also been very lucky to experience a drumming workshop too!
